Lakeshore Humane Society Pet Adoption Day/Open House

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a Pet Adoption Day/Open House at its Adoption Center on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 431 E. Chestnut St. Dunkirk.

The public is welcome to come to see the facility, and meet some of the dogs and cats in need of caring homes.

Forestville Career Fair Day Thursday

Forestville School is collaborating with Silver Creek School to hold a Career Fair Day Thursday for middle and high school students. There will be two different sessions: the first session ( 9 to 10:30 a.m.) for middle school students and the second session (12:30 to 2 p.m.) for high school students. It be held at Silver Creek Central School.

Tom Reed to hold Town Hall meetings Saturday

Tom Reed will hold two town hall meetings Satur-day. All constituents with questions, concerns and thoughts are encouraged to attend and participate.

Meeting schedule:

Chautauqua Municipal Building, 2 Academy St., Mayville, at 10:30 a.m.

Conewango Town Hall, 4762 Route 241, Cone-wango Valley, at 1 p.m.

Lighthouse Ghost Tours begin May 10

Ghost Tours will be held at the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum this summer sponsored by the Fredonia Ghost Hunters. The first tour will be held on May 10 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A total of 15 spots are available at a cost of $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at www.dunkirklighthouse.com or by calling 366-5050. Other dates include: July 19, Oct. 18, Oct. 25, and Oct. 26. All proceeds benefit the lighthouse. Sign up soon and reserve your spot.

Silver Creek Fire Department open house Saturday

The Silver Creek Fire Department will hold an open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire hall, 172 Central Ave., Silver Creek. Anyone thinking about being a firefighter, with questions, or who just want to look around is welcome to attend. There will be demonstrations of firefighting activities.

Senior Citizen Breakfast May 3

The Brocton Central School Interact Club is hosting a Senior Citizen Breakfast for all Brocton-Portland area seniors on May 3 at 10 a.m. in the school cafeteria. After breakfast, tours of the school will be given. RSVP to Linda Miller at 792-2173 before Thursday.

Chicken barbecue Sunday in Dayton

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Company is sponsoring a chicken barbecue on Sunday, starting at 11:30 a.m. until sold out at their Fire Hall, 9512 Route 62, Dayton. Dinners are $9 for adults and $5.50 for children under 12. Dinners include half chicken, salt potatoes, macaroni salad, coleslaw, roll with butter, desserts and drinks. Take-outs available. Call 532-9098 before Sunday. On Sunday, call 532-2627. All proceeds go to the new fire hall fund.

County Soil and Water Conservation District directors to meet

The Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conserva-tion District directors will hold their regular meeting on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the County SWCD in Northcrest Business Park, 220 Fluvanna Ave., Suite 600, Jamestown.

Silver Creek-South Dayton Road closed in Hanover

The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities announced that Silver Creek-South Dayton Road (Touring Route 93) between Route 39 and James Road in the town of Hanover will be closed to through traffic while a culvert is replaced. The road will be closed to through traffic until barricades are removed.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host informational session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road in Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m. CJC provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries as well as high school equivalency classes to those in need of a diploma. Training in certified nurse aide, carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical are available as well as the advanced training for licensed practical nurse.

The Academy will accept young adults age 16-24 who are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career. Applicants can apply for on-center living or non-residential status, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted.
