Gowanda rallies past Olean

GOWANDA?- The Gowanda Lady Panthers (5-0, 3-0) survived an early scare against the Olean Lady Huskies and rallied in the fourth and fifth innings to earn a 5-4 victory Monday in a CCAA East I softball matchup.

Trailing 4-0 going into the bottom half of the fourth inning, Jess Sowa came through with a three-run triple to bring the home team within a run.

Still trailing by one in the fifth, Da:’Di’ Jones scored on a Jenna Stelley base hit.

Later in the inning, Rae White scored what proved to be the game-winning run on a passed ball.

Strong defensive efforts by Rachel Greco and Ally Keller helped hold Olean scoreless the remainder of the contest.

Taylor Olson, who entered the game in the fourth, got the win in relief of Jones.

“It was a tight game,” Gowanda coach Darlene Pfaffenbach said. “We came out and didn’t seem into it after Olean scored two runs in the first. We had a great defensive fourth inning and after that we were just hitting the ball. We were tight defensively and played very good. I was glad to see us get a spark.”

Gowanda will travel to Allegany-Limestone today for another CCAA East I game.
