Bud ‘n Bloom to hold plant sale on May 17 and 18 to benefit Literacy Volunteers

The Bud ‘n Bloom Club is gearing up for their annual plant sale, which will be held on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deakin’s barn on Route 20 in Portland (across from Cornell Cooperative Extension).

The sale benefits Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County and has been well supported by the community for the past several years.

The perennial seeds were planted in February and the seedlings have recently been transplanted. The club started making plans for this year’s sale as soon as everything was cleaned up from last year’s successful sale. There will be an increase in the number of annual arrangements this year since they have been so popular in the past. In addition, there will be a large selection of hardy perennials, vegetables, herbs, and many gorgeous succulent gardens.

Fivel local nurseries have donated flowering shrubs. which will be on display at the sale. Raffle tickets for these shrubs will sell for $1 each or six for $5. All members of the Bud ‘n Bloom Club work hard to make this sale a success but special appreciation goes to Penny Deakin and Judy Kawski for their total dedication to this project.

Raffle tickets and flyers are available at Literacy Volunteers’ bookstore during their normal hours.
