East Aurora fends off Silver Creek under the lights
SILVER CREEK – Despite getting five goals from Marvin Curry, the Silver Creek Black Knights (1-1) were unable to get past East Aurora (4-0), as the Blue Devils won, 12-9, in Class C boys lacrosse action Wednesday.
“We just kind of ran out of gas,” Silver Creek head coach Bill Brennan said. “We only had 12 players and (East Aurora) had 14 seniors on the team. But it was a good game and I thought the kids showed a lot of heart and they played the full four quarters. I was very proud of them (Wednesday).”
The Black Knights held a 6-5 lead at halftime, but were unable to hold off the Blue Devils, who outscored the home team, 7-3, over the final two quarters.
Ayden Jimerson had a pair of goals in the loss while Bryce Plecker and Chase Scanlan each found the back of the net once. Nate Serio had a good game on defense, picking up 14 ground balls and making several key plays to clear the ball out of the Black Knights’ end.
“He was kind of the player of the game,” Brennan said. “He had a lot of ground balls and he was playing very aggressive on defense. He just did an all-around heck of a job (Wednesday).”
Cameron Seebrock, a ninth grader making his first varsity start, made 13 saves in net for Silver Creek in the loss.
“He faced a lot of shots,” Brennan said. “Nate (Serio), Marvin (Curry) and our goalie were the three standouts for sure.”
