Spaghetti and meatball benefit Saturday

A spaghetti and meatball benefit for Mark E. Swan-son is scheduled Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Sinclairville Fire Hall, 30 Main St., Sinclairville. Swanson suffered a stroke in February that required emergency brain surgery.

The fundraiser has been organized by the Open Door Baptist Church of Cassada-ga. Dinners are $7 for age 13 and older, $4 for age 12 and under, and $7.50 for takeout.

To donate for the silent auction, contact Swanson’s employer, Cassadaga Farm Supply, at 595-3060. Mone-tary donations can be made to “Friends of Mark Swan-son,” c/o Community Bank, 8036 Route 60, Cassadaga 14718.

Silver Creek Fire Department open house Saturday

The Silver Creek Fire Department will hold an open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire hall, 172 Central Ave., Silver Creek. Anyone thinking about being a firefighter, with questions, or who just want to look around is welcome to attend. There will be demonstrations of firefighting activities.

‘A FanTableous Fete’ reception and auction Sunday in Fredonia

The Fredonia Opera House “A FanTableous Fete” reception and auction will be held at The White Inn, 52 E. Main St.. Fredonia. Fourteen uniquely designed maple corner tables will be auctioned off. Bids on the tables will be accepted before the 5:30 p.m. Sunday reception/auc-tion as well as at the event.

To place an advance bid, bidders should email their name, phone number, name of the table they are bidding on and the bid amount to The bids are updated daily.

If bidders cannot attend the FanTableous Fete auction, the Opera House will make arrangements for them to attend and bid via telephone or for a proxy bidder.

Brocton Post 434 Auxiliary to host Chicken & Ribs BBQ

The Brocton Post 434 Auxiliary will hold a Chicken & Ribs BBQ at the Brocton Legion, 110 W. Main St., Brocton, on Sun-day at noon till sold out. Pre-sale tickets are available at the post for $9.50 and $10 at the door Sunday. Pick up presale dinners by 1 p.m. Proceeds to benefit community projects.

Ferguson and Wise to appear on Senior Report

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Jason Ferguson and Scott Wise as the guests on Saturday’s television program. Ferguson and Wise are with the Chautauqua Star. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities.

Senior Report is shown live Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems in following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chau-tauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, For-estville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville. Viewers should note all area public access channels have been dropped from Time Warner’s analog service, but can be received on digital service with a converter at their legacy channel assignment, or on a digital television (channel varies by system) that has been recently autoscanned. Programming from Access Channel 5 (channel 21.4 on a QAM digital TV) is also aired each evening in the town of Hanover on cable channel 12 (channel 98.3 on a QAM digital TV).

Commission to meet

The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will hold its monthly meeting today at Chautauqua County Airport in Jamestown at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

March of Dimes event

Hundreds of people will be at Jamestown Commun-ity College to take part in the 2014 March for Babies this Saturday.

In addition to the 3-mile walk, other festivities in-clude coffee and donuts from Tim Hortons, lunch courtesy of Sahlen’s hot dogs and Subway subs, plus Kid’s activities and music from Felony Entertainment.

Registration starts at 10 a.m.; walk starts at 11 a.m.

Portland Volunteer Fire Dept. open house set

Portland Volunteer Fire Dept. has planned an open house for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fire hall is located at 6481 West Main Road, Portland. See demonstrations, check out the trucks, and get a little taste of what it’s like.

Chicken barbecue

in Dayton on Sunday

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Company is sponsoring a chicken barbecue Sunday, starting at 11:30 a.m. until sold out at its Fire Hall, 9512 Route 62, Dayton. Dinners are $9 for adults and $5.50 for children under 12. Dinners include half chicken, salt potatoes, macaroni salad, coleslaw, roll with butter, desserts and drinks. Takeouts available. Call 532-9098 before Sunday. On Sunday, call 532-2627. All proceeds go to the new fire hall fund.

Gowanda Fire to host chicken barbecue

dinner Sunday

A chicken barbecue dinner will be held on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until sold out at the Gowanda Fire Hall, 230 Aldrich St.

The dinner will include chicken, baked beans, potato salad, rolls, dessert and a beverage.

Dinners are $8.50; just chicken $5.50. Takeouts are available.

The dinner is sponsored by the Rescue Co. 3 and Ladies Auxiliary Co. 6 of the fire department.
