Silver Creek, Fredonia win first-round games
SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Black Knights’ softball team rolled to a 15-0 win over the Brocton Lady Bulldogs Friday in the Hae Jude Tournament hosted at Silver Creek Central School.
Ally Harford earned the win by going five innings, allowing three hits while striking out five and walking two. Kennedy Eggleston pitched the final two innings in relief and gave up two hits and a walk to seal the victory.
Silver Creek held a slim 1-0 lead entering the third inning and jumped on the Lady Bulldogs for four runs in the third inning and six in the fourth to open up what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.
Christina Williams led the Black Knight offense with a 3-for-5 performance, including an RBI double. Darien Spruce added two hits and an RBI while Harford (3-for-5 with an RBI) and Brooke Birner (two hits and an RBI) also contributed to the win.
Jess Putcher started in the circle for Brocton and went three innings, allowing seven hits and five runs before being relieved by Jess Merle.
Merle pitched the final three innings and gave up 10 runs on five hits while walking six and striking out four.
Silver Creek will play the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies today at 11 a.m.
Fredonia?13, Chautauqua Lake 5
SILVER CREEK – The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (4-0, 3-0) earned a 13-5 victory on Friday over the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds in the Hae Jude Tournament.
Baylee Tarnowski earned the complete-game victory by scattering 10 hits and striking out six while issuing no walks.
Bre Dahn had two hits and an RBI in the victory while Morgan Genovese added two hits and an RBI.
Tarnowski helped her own cause with single and a double at the plate.
Olivia Anderson took the loss for Chautauqua Lake, allowing four earned runs.
Fredonia will play the Silver Creek Black Knights today at 11 a.m.
In other Hae Jude Tournament action, the West Valley Lady Panthers defeated Global Concepts Charter School 20-0.
West Valley will play the winner of the Gowanda Lady Panthers versus Forestville Lady Hornets game, which was suspended due to weather on Friday after four innings of play.
The game will be resumed today at 9 a.m.
