GOWANDA Village cannot afford full-time post
With the village of Gowanda staring at a potential 5 percent tax increase with its proposed budget for 2014-15, the last thing it needs is another full-time police officer.
According to Sean Hotnich, officer in charge, he would like to see another full-timer added to his crew, which includes 20 part-timers. “I’d like to see (the village) add a full-time officer and (decrease) the number of part-time officers,” he said.
Hotnich expects some of his part-timers to resign and believes with a full-timer it will be easier to schedule round-the-clock coverage. Private, small businesses will agree that it is never easy filling schedules, but sometimes added help just is not affordable.
This is the case here as well.
