Brocton cruises past Panama at Showcase, 15-0
JAMESTOWN – Brocton (3-5, 1-3) blew open a 2-0 game in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 15-0 CCAA West II win over Panama Saturday during the High School Baseball Showcase at Diethrick Park, in Jamestown.
The Bulldogs took advantage of several walks and passed balls in the fifth while Anthony Miller added a two-run single that helped Brocton to a 9-0 lead. Then, in the sixth, the Bulldogs added six runs for the 15-0 final.
“We finally had some timely hitting with some guys on in that inning,” Brocton head coach Terry Presto said of the Bulldogs’ sixth.
Latham Dunn provided the key hit in Brocton’s sixth, as he laced a two-run single. Steve Krystofiak, Ryan Johnson, Nash Delcamp and Miller all finished the day with two hits while Devin Walter added a run-scoring double in the Bulldogs’ two-run second inning.
Remington picked up the win on the hill for the Bulldogs, as he worked the first four innings allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking one. Miller finished up, allowing a hit while striking out three and walking one.
“It’s the first time both were on the mound and I was impressed that they both only had one walk,” Presto said. “And Daulton ended up with eight strikeouts and I was impressed with that. And the location of his fastball for the first time out.”
Eric Shutt suffered the loss for Panama, working the first two innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three and walking two.
