Person in critical condition after Evans crash

EVANS – An unidentified person was listed in critical condition after a single-car accident at the intersection of Kennedy and Erie roads.
According to the Evans Police Department, at 12:40 p.m., first responders received multiple calls regarding the accident. The vehicle reportedly left Erie Road and struck a telephone pole.
The only person in the vehicle, the driver, was transported to Lake Shore Hospital by Rural/Metro Ambulance. The person was later transferred to the Erie County Medical Center.
Erie Road was closed for approximately two hours while the accident scene was investigated. The accident remains under investigation.
The driver’s name was not released pending notification of the family.
The Lake Erie Beach Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office
RIPLEY – Ruth Wheat, 22, of Dawson Drive, Gowanda, was charged with driving while intoxicated and crossing hazard markings on Saturday.
Around 4:20 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Route 20 for a report of an erratic operator. Deputies located the vehicle and allegedly observed the operator commit a vehicle and traffic violation. The vehicle was subsequently pulled over.
An investigation revealed the driver, Wheat, was reportedly operating her vehicle in an intoxicated state.
She was taken into custody and arraigned in Ripley Town Court. Afterward, she was committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond.
