Sorority meets for Founder’s Day Celebration

Members of the Brocton Preceptor Beta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met recently at the Stockton Grill for their annual Founder’s Day Celebration and dinner. This year marked the 83rd anniversary of the sorority’s founding.

Prior to the dinner, rituals were held for four members of the Chapter; Janice Hipwell received the Torchbearer, which is the seventh and highest Degree of Beta Sigma Phi; Judy Travis received the Masters which is the sixth Degree; Valerie Lis received the Laureate, the fifth Degree; and Regina Hesslink received the Ritual of Jewels Degree which is the second in Beta Sigma Phi. Each member was presented with a yellow rose and a distinctive pin depicting the new degree. Those recognized were congratulated by all of their Chapter members with the Beta Sigma Phi handshake.

Preceding the dinner, President Janice Hipwell led the Founder’s Day Pledge and Ms. Lis had the honor of reading a message from International President, Laura Ross Wingfield announcing the Theme for the 2014 2015 Year, “Expand Your Family Tree.” Ms. Hipwell then presented the award of Woman of the Year to Judy Travis with a unique pin. She was congratulated by her “sisters” as she thanked them for this surprise honor.
