Drummond does it all in Dunkirk victory

The Dunkirk Lady Marauders (3-2) hammered out 22 hits and received a solid pitching performance from Riley Drummond in a 21-2 victory over the Silver Creek Black Knights on Monday in CCAA West I high school softball.

The Lady Marauders opened the bottom of the first inning with seven consecutive hits to open up an 8-0 lead. The onslaught continued in the fifth inning as the home team plated seven more runs.

In the circle, Drummond pitched a complete game with three hits, 11 strikeouts and two walks. At the plate, Drummond had four hits with a triple and four RBIs. Quinn Bankoski aided in the offensive explosion with a two-run homer. Emilee Hanlon and Carissa Dunn each had three hits for Dunkirk.

“I don’t care who you play, 22 hits is 22 hits,” Dunkirk coach John Sliwa said. “They did exactly what I told them to do. They drove the ball to the gaps. Quinn hit a home run into the wind. I don’t know how, but it just kept going. It was good to see aggressive attacks at the plate and a nice job on the mound from Riley. She pitched real well. The kids are starting to build confidence.”

Dunkirk is scheduled to return to action Wednesday at Southwestern.
