Civilette, McCarthy shine in Billies’ loss

LAKEWOOD – Fredonia’s Matt Civilette won three events and Matt McCarthy two, but it wasn’t enough as the Southwestern Trojans ran past Fredonia (1-2), 84-57, Wednesday during CCAA Division I boys track and field action.

Civilette was first in the 400-meters (57.8 seconds), long jump (19-feet-6-inches) and the triple jump (41-1) while McCarthy crossed the finish line first in the 100 (11.6 seconds) and the 200 (24.6 seconds).

McCarthy also helped the 4×100 relay team to a win in 47.9 seconds. Joining McCarthy on the team were John Dewey, Dyaln Meyer and A.J. Amatuzzo. The Hillbillies’ 4×800 relay team of Mike Meredith, Ryan Meredith, Jake Eckman and Dewey finished first in a time of 9:50.

Jordan Powers won the 110 high hurdles in 11.6 seconds, 400 hurdles (1:01.6) and the high jump (5-4) while Trojans teammate Ryan Hetrick took the 1,600 in 4:49, the 800 in 2:14 and the 3,200 in 10:58.

Fredonia is back in action Friday night at the Falconer Invitational.

The Southwestern girls’ track team (3-0, 4-0) remained undefeated on Wednesday night as they cruised to an 84.5-55.5 Division 1 win at home over Fredonia.

Brittany Feldman was a triple winner for the Lady Trojans after taking home the 400 (1:00), 200 (26.9) and the high jump (4-10).

Devin Kowalewski was a triple winner for Fredonia with victories in the 100 hurdles (16.7), long jump (15-4.5) and the triple jump (31-1.5).
