Silver Creek Community Education courses begin this month

SILVER CREEK – Registration for the Silver Creek Central School District’s Community Education Program is currently underway for the Spring 2014 session.

You do not have to be a resident of the Silver Creek School district to enroll in these courses. For more information about a specific course, to pre-register by phone, or if you are interested in teaching a course call 951-8111. Speak clearly and leave your name, phone number and classes of interest.

After pre-registering, participants should then send in their money for the course, as they will only be contacted should a class be cancelled due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment, in which case their money will be refunded.

There is a 15 percent senior citizens discount that will be honored for all participants 65 years of age and older. Checks should be made out to Silver Creek CS and mailed to: Silver Creek CS, PO Box 270 Dickinson St., Silver Creek, NY 14136, Attn: Community Education.

Classes will not meet when school is closed for a holiday or inclement weather.

Hula Hooping, instructed by Jennie Kaleta, will be offered on Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m., May 5 through June 16. Classes will be held in the elementary gym. Class fee is $25.

Body Boot Camp is taught by Lisa Capitano on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m., May 1 through June 26. Classes are held in the room above the pool. Class fee is $40.

Men’s Basketball is run by Dwayne Haskins on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 to 10 p.m., May 5 through June 30, in the elementary gym. The fee is $20 or $2 per night.

Women’s Basketball is run by Jane Hogg on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m., May 6 through June 24, in the elementary gym. The fee is $2 per night.

Adult Golf Clinic will be taught by Dan Vona on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 20 through June 5 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Classes will meet at Tri-County Country Club with the first class in the high school gym. Bring a 7 iron. Fee is $30.

Mommy/Daddy and Me Swim, instructed by Jean Mahaney and Alesha Helman will be on Wednesdays, May 7 to June 11, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the pool. Parent to child ratio must be 1:1. Swim pants must be worn by infants and toddlers not yet potty trained. Class fee is $25 per child.

American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, instructed by Nancy Hargrave, will be offered on May 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Room 309 and the pool. Candidates must be 15 years old and have a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/-AED certifications. Class fee is $25 and the certificate fee is $19.

Five-Hour Pre-licensing Class will be taught by Tom Herring on May 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 217 in the high school. This is the minimal requirement necessary to schedule and take a road test. This five-hour course will provide the MV-285 certificate. Bring your Driver PERMIT and food; a snack break will be provided. Class fee is $30.

Sign Language for Beginners, instructed by Joan Dudek, will be held in room 405 in the elementary school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 3 through 19 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Class fee is $30.

Researching Your Family History will be taught by Susan Dietzen on May 6 through 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room 193 in the high school. Class fee is $20 and the supply fee is $5.
