Karen Ross Crossley Memorial Scholarship recipients recognized
JAMESTOWN – The WCA Foundation recently awarded and recognized two WCA Hospital employees, Amy Jo Caldwell and Abraham Kibbey, as the winners of the inaugural Karen Ross Crossley Memorial Scholarship.
Caldwell, RN, has been employed as a nurse at WCA Hospital for seven years, including the past six years in special care/ICU. She is pursuing her BSN degree from Daemen College to enhance her nursing skills before continuing her education in order to become a nurse practitioner.
Kibbey has been a phlebotomist in the WCA Hospital Laboratory for the past two years. He is a graduate of Penn State Behrend and has a master’s degree from Slippery Rock University. He will be attending Mercyhurst University with plans to become a physician assistant.
The Legacy of Karen Ross Crossley
Throughout her 30 years of dedicated service as a Respiratory Therapist at WCA Hospital, Karen Ross Crossley was beloved by both her patients and fellow employees. She was well respected for her vast knowledge in the Respiratory Care field and her advocacy for patient care. Karen played an important role in the mentoring of new employees, became a strong role model in positive patient care, and fostered greater pride and camaraderie amongst employees.
After her tragic death in 2006, co-workers and family members created the Karen Ross Crossley Memorial Scholarship Fund, an endowment fund at the WCA Foundation. Selected by a Scholarship Committee of WCA employees, it provides at least one annual scholarship to a deserving WCA Hospital employee who is pursuing continuing education in a medically-related field while demonstrating the same work ethic and concern for patient care as Karen did in their daily work at WCA Hospital.
