High-speed chase ends in Portland
A high-speed chase ended in a crash on Route 5 in Portland around 10:22 p.m. Thursday.
Justin A. Baker, 20, of Erie, Pa. is sitting in Chautauqua County Jail after he failed in his effort to flee from Pennsylvania and Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace confirmed Pennsylvania State Police tried to stop Baker before he passed the border into Chautauqua County. After attempting to stop Baker on Route 5 in the town of Westfield, it wasn’t until the town of Portland where his chase finally ended.
“He (Baker) refused to pull over so deputies put spike strips in the road,” Gerace said. “His tires flattened and he crashed.”
He did not receive any injuries due to the crash.
Deputies noticed he was operating his vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Gerace added Baker is charged with two counts of third-degree unlawful fleeing from a police officer, two counts of reckless driving, driving while ability impaired by drugs and seventh-degree criminal possession of controlled substances as well as other traffic violations.
Baker is being held in Chautauqua County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.
The reason for Baker’s unwillingness to pull over is unknown.
