Salvatore “Sam” Piazza

Salvatore “Sam” Piazza, 64, of Lakewood, passed away Thursday (May 1, 2014) in the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, Albany, NY.

A lifelong area resident, he was born June 16, 1949 in Jamestown, the son of the late Joseph and Kathryn Clark Piazza.

Sam attended Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. In earlier years, he was employed by Carborundum, and prior to retirement, he was employed by Coach USA, retiring in 2012.

He was a member of the Busti Fire Department, Jamestown Rifle Club and Jamestown Eagles Club. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, model airplanes and golfing.

Surviving are his wife Gwendolyn D. Stahursky Piazza, whom he married December 15, 2006 in Falconer; two sons: Sam (Nicole) Piazza of Falconer, Joseph (Ashley) Piazza of Jamestown; a daughter, Tammy Piazza of Mayville; five step-children: Michelle (Jeff) Terry, Rebecca (Mike) Smith, Andrew (Laura) Cobb, Ashley Cobb, Shelby Lynn; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers: John (Julie) Piazza of Falconer, Fred (Jaynelle) Piazza of Jamestown; a sister, Claudette Piazza (Gary Holt) of Falconer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Kathryn Clark Piazza.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Pastor Gregory Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday.
