Quick start lifts Pine Valley to win

SOUTH DAYTON – The Pine Valley Panthers (7-1, 7-0) used a four-run first inning to get an early lead on the Ellicottville Eagles and eventually pulled away for a 13-4 victory in CCAA East II baseball action.

Jacob Wilcox got the Panthers on the board early with a three-run home run in the first inning to set the tone.

The Panthers added five more runs in the third inning to distance themselves in what proved to be a one-sided victory.

Winfred Nelson earned the complete-game win on the mound, allowing four runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and a walk.

Nelson was also 3 for 4 at the plate with a double, triple an RBI and four runs scored.

Wilcox was 2 for 4 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored while Dylan Granger was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

North Collins 11,

West Valley 9

WEST VALLEY – North Collins’ Joey English made a game-saving diving catch in centerfield to help the Eagles (5-5, 4-3) escape West Valley (1-7, 1-6) with an 11-9 victory Monday in CCAA East II high school baseball.

West Valley had the bases loaded with two outs and a shallow fly ball to centerfield was barely caught by English to preserve the win.

Dave Lynch led North Collins’ offense with two hits while Jake Jasinski had a two-run double and Austin Winter added a two-run double of his own for the winners.


Westfield 5, Ch. Lake 3

WESTFIELD – The Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds (7-3, 5-2) gave Westfield (12-4, 8-0) their best punch, but the Wolverines punched right back to open up a two-game lead in the CCAA West II standings with a 5-3 victory Monday.

The Thunderbirds took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as Ryan Linnecke ripped a two-run single and Tyler Furlow had an RBI grounded for the lead.

The Wolverines responded in the bottom half of the inning as Tanner Dahl drove in two runs with a single and Jonathan Wilson’s RBI single plated Dahl for a 3-all deadlock.

In the fourth inning, the home team scored the go-ahead run on heads up base running. With Eric Fermier standing on third, Dahl drew a walk and never stopped as he kept running to second base. The pitcher threw the ball to second, and Fermier broke for home and scored.

The Wolverines added an insurance run in the sixth for the victory.

Dahl was the only batter to record two hits. Nolan Hunt tripled for the winners.

Hunt was the winning pitcher as he threw a complete-game, three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks. Braydyn was the losing pitcher, as he went seven strong innings with six hits, four strikeouts and two walks.


Gowanda 19,?Randolph 3

GOWANDA – The Gowanda Panthers (12-4, 8-0) made light work of the Randolph Cardinals (2-7, 1-5), 19-3, Monday in CCAA East I high school baseball.

Chase Williams carried the big bat for Gowanda with a 4-for-5 showing as he drove in five RBIs. Ryan Boutelle and Joey Kruszka each had two hits for the winners.

Boutelle was the winning pitcher as he went four innings with one hit and five strikeouts. Chase Williams pitched one inning and struck out the side while Carter Benton and Shane DeLeo also threw one inning.

Gowanda travels to Olean on Thursday in a battle for first place.
