Marauders get first two wins of season
The Dunkirk Marauders (2-8) picked up their first two wins of the season with matching 4-1 wins over Cassadaga Valley on Tuesday in CCAA Division I high school tennis.
In the first match, Peter Kubera won his first-singles match over Hunter Kaskey, 8-4.
In second singles, Cassadaga Valley’s Brandon Pfeiffer downed Bryan Palacios, 8-2.
The Marauders’ Rodrick Alverado won third singles with an 8-0 decision over Tyler Michael. In first doubles, Dunkirk’s team of Conner Aitchenson and Duke Medema defeated Kelly Crandall and Kaitlyn Gierlinger, 8-4 while at second doubles, Brandon Katta and Adrien Alverado downed Ansie Vick and Mikayla Osterhoat, 8-2.
In the second match, Kubera was victorious again with an 8-1 win over Crandall. Bryan Palacios won over Michael, 8-2 in second singles while Alverado handled Vick, 8-1 in third singles.
In first doubles, Cassadaga Valley’s Pfeiffer and Kaskey won over Medema and Aitchenson, 8-1.
At second doubles, Dunkirk’s Brandon Katta and Dale Lombardo downed Gierlinger and Megan Nickerson, 8-1.
Panama 4, Fredonia 1
PANAMA – The undefeated Panama Panthers defeated Fredonia, 4-1, Tuesday in CCAA Division I high school tennis.
Fredonia’s lone win came at second doubles as Dustin Wickmark and Nick Piper held off Quinn Payne and Jessica Golden, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
In first singles, Panama’s Bruce Payne defeated Nick Johnston, 6-1, 6-4.
“Nick had a great match at first singles playing Payne, who is undefeated in our league,” Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston said. “They had some long rallies and it was hard hitting.”
The Hillbillies host Westfield in a doubleheader today.
