Knights get first league win of year over Marauders

SILVER CREEK – Silver Creek (3-7, 1-6) picked up its first league win of the season Tuesday, as it defeated Dunkirk, 7-5, in CCAA West I baseball action.

Dunkirk jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Silver Creek came back in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs. After the Marauders tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Black Knights went up 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Then, trailing 5-4, Silver Creek put the game away with a three-run sixth, as Jake Nosbisch had an RBI single, John Murphy scored on an error and Jake Lewis chased home Nosbisch with a sacrifice fly.

Nosbisch picked up the win on the mound after tossing two innings of relief. He allowed two runs on two hits and walked one. Adam Klajbor worked the first five innings for the Black Knights and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking five.

Zack Crandall suffered the loss on the hill, allowing seven runs on five hits while striking out five and walking two over 5-1/3 innings.

Chris Williams finished with two hits, including a double, in the win while Devaun Farnham-DeJesus had a pair of hits for Dunkirk in the loss.

“Freshman Chris Williams is starting to come of age,” Silver Creek head coach Mike Janisch said. “And he’s hitting the ball very well.”
