WMH Auxiliary offers 10th in a series of collectable ornaments

The Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board announced its 2014 Ornament is now available and will make its debut at the annual “Celebrating Spring” event on Saturday at the Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk.

This is the 10th year in the limited edition series.

This year’s ornament features “Eason Hall,” a prominent Westfield building with an interesting history.

In 1919, Clara Eason bequeathed $23,000 to the village of Westfield for a municipal building in memory of her parents, David and Margaret Eason.

“Backman’s Skating Auditorium & Dance Hall” on Elm Street was purchased and remodeled, adding a stepped facade, stone lintels and sills around the windows, a three bay portico with four banded Egyptian columns, and front double glass doors with side lights, transom and wood entablature.

Stately “Eason Hall,” dedicated on Jan 15, 1925, houses a courtroom, offices, meeting rooms, and an auditorium. It is still one of Westfield’s busiest buildings.

In addition to the ornament, the “Eason Hall” image may also be purchased as a magnet or thimble.

If you wish to add this new ornament to your collection, or start a collection, the ornament will be available at the “Celebrating Spring” event, at the Westfield Farmers Market and at other functions in the community or contact any WMH Auxiliary Board member.
