Accident takes out pole, damages park in Fredonia
A woman and her baby were uninjured after an accident that left a path of destruction in its wake Tuesday night.
Fredonia Police and fire departments responded to an accident at the intersection of Route 20 and Seymour Street in the village of Fredonia around 9:30 p.m.
According to Sgt. Phil Maslak, a vehicle operated by a female driver was headed west on Route 20 when it dinged a car, hit a utility pole and careened into the park, striking light poles and flipping over before coming to rest on its wheels near the other side of the park and Houghton Street.
The female driver and her infant were transported to Brooks Hospital by Fredonia Ambulance as a precaution. The other car in the accident was able to be driven away from the scene with minimal damage and no injuries.
Maslak said the investigation was ongoing and a cause was not yet known.
National Grid workers also responded to the scene to attend to the broken pole and hanging live wires.
Fire personnel diverted traffic around the accident on Route 20 to Chautauqua Road to Webster Road to Water Street and on Chestnut Street onto Berry Road. Truck traffic was diverted onto Route 5.
