Cassadaga getting ready for summer
CASSADAGA – With Memorial Day just around the corner, Cassadaga officials are finalizing plans for the summer.
At the Cassadaga Village Board meeting, officials discussed some upcoming events.
The village will have a walk around the lake beginning at the Cassadaga Branch library on May 25 at 10 a.m.
There will be a Memorial Day Parade on May 26 at 11 a.m.
At the end of summer will be a Labor Day Parade, Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. That parade starts at Frisbee Road and ends at the Fire Hall; hot dogs will be grilled and drinks offered to anyone interested.
“We as the board need to do this,” Mayor LeeAnn Lazarony said about getting involved with the parades.
The village is also in the process of hiring staff for the beach program. Interviews for the beach positions will start at the end of May into the first week of June. There will be five new employees total. The beach opens up to the public June 22.
One project this summer will be addressing the brush pile. The brush pile will be closed down for the summer beginning June 1. Anyone interested in taking material out of the brush pile needs to do it before then. The brush pile is only used for wood chips, leaves and grass.
Trustee Josh Slaven has agreed, with the board’s help, to take all the logs out of the brush pile and recycle them.
Lazarony said the board really needs to do something about the brush pile because it is getting out of hand.
“Anyone can take what they want out of the brush pile and recycle it,” she said.
