Reyda wins four events in Fredonia win
OLEAN – Lauren Reyda was a triple winner while Devin Kowalewski, Deidra Osula and Courtney Styborski each won two events in leading the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies to an impressive 90-47 victory over Olean on Tuesday in CCAA Division 1 girls high school track and field.
Reyda took first place in the 3,000-meters with a time of 12:06 and the 800 at 2:38. She also won the 1,500-meters. Meanwhile, Kowalewski won the 100, crossing the finish line at 16 seconds and she leaped to a first-place finish in the triple jump at 30-feet-9 inches.
Styborski won the shot put and discus with throws of 31-7 and 94-4, respectively. Teammate Osula won the 100 (13.3) and 200 (27.3).
Ally Cobb won the 400 hurdles at 1:15 and was also a member of two winning relay teams.
“The girls had another good performance,” Fredonia coach Mike Marshall said.
As for the boys, Matt Civilette and Matt McCarthy were double winners for Fredonia, but it wasn’t enough as the Hillbillies (1-5) fell to Olean (6-0), 102.5-38.5.
Civilette took first in the triple jump (43-5) and the long jump (20-feet) while McCarthy was first in the 100 and 200 meter events. McCarthy crossed the finish line in the 100 in a time of 11.4 seconds and the 200 in a time of 23.5 seconds. The scores for both athletes in their respective events represented season-best efforts.
The Hillbillies will be back in action Friday at Salamanca, when they compete in the Super 8 meet.
