Stanley J. Raiport

GOWANDA – Stanley J. Raiport, age 91, of Miller Street, Gowanda, passed away at home surrounded by family.

He was born in Gowanda April 19, 1923, the son of Anthony and Helen (Gominiak) Raiport.

A WWII Veteran, Stanley honorably served his country with the U.S. Army.

A NY State retiree, Stan retired from the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center where he worked on the hospital grounds.

His memberships included St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Stan also was a member of the American Legion Post 409, The James Cruden VFW Post 5007 and the Slovenian Club, all of Gowanda.

Beloved husband of the former Mary Ondus. Stan is also survived by a brother, Adam Raiport of Gowanda; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Stan was preceded in death by an infant son Ronald, who passed away in 1949 5 days after birth; 4 sisters, Bernice Reska, Mary Larson, Victoria Schmidtz and Josephine Merrill; and a brother John (wife Ruby survives) Raiport.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda (716) 532-4200 from 4-8 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial with full Military Honors will be celebrated Saturday May 17, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s RC Church, 69 East Main St., Gowanda (please note time and assemble at church) with Fr. Joseph Porpiglia, celebrant. Interment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
