Camp Findley benefits from Helping Hands

The First United Methodist Church of Fredonia sponsored its Helping Hands mission team to continue work projects at Camp Findley recently. This was the fourth year the team has worked at the camp. Eleven members from Fredonia were joined by another eleven volunteers from throughout the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The members of the mission team from Fredonia included Mary Cole, Dave Gambino, Nick Green, Dennis Krzyzanowicz, Tom Lafferty, Gerry and Karen Mathewson, Melissa and Pastor Steve Wiggers, and co-leaders, Linda and Tom Cooper.

The work team continued to renovate Goodwill Lodge. The team removed showers and toilets from both bathrooms, primed and painted the ceiling and walls and installed new showers, drains and water supply lines. The group completed the installation of wall board in the stairwell, painted all of the ceilings throughout Goodwill Lodge and painted the hallways and trim work.

The group removed roofing from one side of Smith House and re-shingled it the same day before all the rains came that week. Workers tore down the well house and archery pavilion platform. A contractor will finish the excavation for the new well house foundation and expanded well house building. The group also removed floor cement next to the outside walls in Showers Hall basement. Drain tiles will be installed to help keep this area dry.

A special “thank you” goes to the three P’s that make these mission projects possible. First, to the players or volunteers who donate their time and energy. This year the team accumulated over 300 work hours in the five days at Camp Findley. Secondly, praise goes to the prayers, those who prayed for safe travels and work. Third, to the payers, the Mission Ministry team at Fredonia UMC along with several individual donors, who helped with team expenses.

Anyone who would like to work on a future team can contact Linda or Tom Cooper at First United Methodist Church of Fredonia at 679-1513.
