Joseph Chillemi, 73, of Dunkirk died Thursday evening (May 15, 2014) at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 13, 1941 in San Antonio, Sicily, Italy, the son of the late Santo and Carmela (Molino) Chillemi.
Mr. Chillemi was the co-owner of American Cleaners in Dunkirk.
A Dunkirk resident since 1965, he was a member of Holy Trinity Church and its Holy Name Society.
A master gardener and wine enthusiast, Mr. Chillemi loved people and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Maria (Crino) Chillemi, whom he married Sept. 12, 1964; two sons, Santo (Tammi) Chillemi of Dunkirk and Joseph (Miyuki) Chillemi of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Carm (Robert) Giannicchi of Lakeview, NY and Angela (Paul) Tripi of Cheektowaga; one brother, Vincenzo Chillemi of San Antonio, Sicily, Italy; one sister, Anna Chillemi of San Antonio, Sicily, Italy; nine grandchildren, Olivia, Andrew, Max, Vincent, Paul, Maria, Savino, Isabella and Sophia; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Chillemi, who died March 14, 2013.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:15 from the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock in Holy Trinity Church. Entombment will be in the Pieta Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
