New hires announced at Cassadaga Valley
SINCLAIRVILLE – The Cassadaga Valley Central School Board had a bittersweet vibe as it said goodbye to some of its own and offered a warm welcome to others.
During a recent school board meeting, it was announced some would be leaving, changing, or starting their positions for the 2014-15 school year.
Jamestown High School part-time teacher and part-time dean of students Jason Mank was hired to be assistant middle/high school principal at Cassadaga Valley, starting July 1. Current middle school principal Richard Siegel is retiring in June. Current high school principal Josh Gilevski will take over for Siegel, becoming a middle/high school principal. Mank’s salary is $65,000.
Interim Superintendent Thomas Schmidt said Mank has a lot to offer the school and he is excited to have him on-board.
Erie 2 BOCES special education teacher Jill Galvin will become the new elementary school principal, starting July 1. She will replace John Kwietniewski, who is changing his position to curriculum and special projects coordinator. Galvin’s salary is $75,000.
“We want to have his (Kwietniewski) expertise,” Schmidt explained about the change in Kwietniewski’s position.
Schmidt praised Galvin and how lucky the school is to have her.
“We are excited about her coming, her enthusiasm, her knowledge and all the things she will bring to the job,” he said. “She has expertise in her internships at Erie 2 BOCES and Hamburg Central Schools.”
Erie 2 BOCES Superintendent David O’Rourke started the process of finding a new superintendent for Cassadaga Valley. Schmidt noted he will no longer be working there Aug. 1.
“I plan to retire again when they find my replacement and go back to doing what I was doing before,” Schmidt said.
Other hires and resignations were accounted for in the agenda.
Joe Mistretta, Tim Wissman and Jeff Smith will be the new assistant football coaches for the 2014-15 combined Cassadaga Valley/Falconer Central School football team.
After 28 years of being with the school district, Pamela Ulrich is resigning as teacher aide, effective June 19.
The board also approved a negotiated contract settlement agreement with the Cassadaga Valley School Related Professionals’ Association, which will be for the period July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2018.
It also approved the merger of the boys modified, junior varsity and varsity wrestling with Falconer Central School for the 2014-15 school year.
