Economy: Trickle-down effect sought

It is not often that Western New York is creating a “buzz” over economic development, but that is exactly what one panel member told an audience of about 80 community members on Tuesday morning.

Thomas Kucharski, president and chief executive officer of the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, gave an optimistic view on what is happening in the region. He said over the past year, he has been to a number of national meetings. Instead of hearing about how bad the football or hockey team is playing, he said, he is now hearing about how well the Buffalo area is doing in the eyes of those who do not live here.

Kucharski’s comments echo those of a number of area officials, especially those in Erie County. The big difference with his comments, however, is he is not looking to get elected.

As one of the voices for business in the Queen City, it was good to hear some optimism. Chautauqua County is a neighbor to Buffalo. We have to work on capitalizing on the region’s momentum.
