Section 6 Class C High School Softball prequarterfinal

WESTFIELD – The No. 4 Westfield Lady Wolverines struck for a run in the first inning and held on for a 1-0 win over the No. 13 Silver Creek Black Knights in a Section 6 Class C prequarterfinal softball matchup on Thursday.

In the first inning, Cathryn Catalano reached base on a dribbler to third. Catalano followed by stealing second, moving to third base on a groundball by Carson Hauser and scoring on a wild pitch.

That first-inning run proved to be the difference as Westfield held on to win behind the pitching of Laura Tofil.

Tofil picked up the win, allowing four hits while striking out nine and walking one in a complete-game effort.

Allison Harford took the loss for Silver Creek, striking out five and walking two while allowing only two hits.

Rachel Allen and Taylor Cassman had the only hits of the game for the Lady Wolverines.

The Black Knights got singles from Harmony Eggleston, Mary Jo Pearl, Harford and Brooke Birner.

“Laura pitched beautifully,” Westfield coach Dave Luder said. “She threw her changeup in great situations. There wasn’t much to talk about hitting, but the pitching and defense was great for both sides.”
