The first day of the CCAA League championships were held at Karl Hoeppner Field on Friday.
And though the weather was not ideal with low temperatures, several solid performances from local runners were recorded.
Most of the track events will hold the finals today as the preliminaries were held Friday, with the top 15 advancing.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Silver Creek’s Caleb Makuch placed fourth with a time of 17.36 while Gowanda’s Trevor Greco took sixth at 17.77. Dunkirk’s Tim Cerrie qualified for today’s finals with a time of 18.56 to take 14th place.
For the girls, in the 100 hurdles, Fredonia’s Devin Kowalewski placed third at 17.02, right ahead of Silver Creek’s Hannah Seiders (17.09). Gowanda’s Lauren Wing placed seventh at 17.65 while Dunkirk’s Savia Moreland took 10th at 17.77. Moreland’s teammate, Kelsey Slate, placed 15th with a time of 19.23.
In the boys’ 100, a trio of local runners enter today’s finals as the top three seeds. Dunkirk’s Nick Barlette took first place at 11.64 while teammate Jose Morales placed second at 11.73. Fredonia’s Matt McCarthy placed third at 11.78. Gowanda’s Nick Marrocco (12.21) and Kameron Alexander (12.23) placed 10th and 12th, respectively.
For the girls, Dunkirk’s Samiyha Toomer placed second at 13.25 while Deidra Osula placed fifth at 14.03. Chautauqua Lake’s Courtney Zentz took 10th place at 14.28.
In the boys’ 400, Dunkirk’s Rashad Graham took second at 52.34 and is joined in today’s finals with Gowanda’s Ben Myzel (fourth, 54.85), Dunkirk’s Ray Tarnowski (sixth, 55.24), Silver Creek’s Derek Catalano (ninth, 55.69) and Chautauqua Lake’s Garrett Einfeldt (10th, 56.05.).
Silver Creek’s Emma Seiders placed second in the 400 with a time of 1:00.45. Westfield’s Brenna Culbreth placed fourth at 1:03.71, ahead of Dunkirk’s Faith Rivera at 1:04.58. Gowanda’s Sarah Grubbs placed sixth at 1:03.70 while Westfield’s Emma Fermier (1:06.05) and Chautauqua Lake’s Abbi Baker snuck into today’s finals with a respective 12th- and 13th-place finish.
