Eagles advance to quarterfinals
SOUTH PARK – The No. 9 Lake Shore Eagles received a solid pitching performance from Jim Barry in knocking off No. 8 seed South Park, 10-0, Friday in Section 6 Class AA prequarterfinal high school baseball action.
Barry pitched a complete game, surrendering four hits and eight strikeouts with one walk.
The Eagles benefitted from a five-run second inning, highlighted by two-out, two-run singles from both Parker Addison and Matt Vona.
Alex Whipple went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Steve Budniewski had two hits with a double and an RBI for the winners. Freshman Andrew McDonaugh belted a two-run single for Lake Shore, which will now take on No. 1 seed Pioneer on Tuesday.
“I was proud of our kids,” Lake Shore coach Bob Kowal said. “We had a tough season and it was nice to do well in a playoff game.”
