Sons of Liberty bike blessing and memorial run held
On May 17, 2014, The Sons of Liberty NY Riding Club held its annual Bike Blessing and Mark Speziale Memorial Run from American Legion Post 62, Central Avenue, Dunkirk. Fifty-five bikes and about 75 people participated in the blessing, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Zalacca of Holy Trinity Church. After the blessing, a Memorial Run in memory of Mark Speziale, a founding member of the club, local businessman and former city councilman, was held. After returning from the approximately 70-mile ride, the riders enjoyed food, Chinese auctions, 50/50 drawings and music by Bob’s Jam Band (formerly Mojo Limbo). VA Representative Pat Mlezcko was on hand to answer questions concerning veteran’s benefits. Food that was left over was donated to the Friendly Kitchen.
The Sons of Liberty, NY (SOLNY) Riding Club (R.C.) was founded in 2010 to promote the enjoyment of owning and riding motorcycles while promoting the US military and first responders. It is a Military Support Motorcycle Riding Club consisting of Military Veterans, Active Duty, Reservist and Military Supporters. Its Mission is to support past, present and future military personnel and veterans organizations along with our communities. By using their love of motorcycle riding, members organize fundraisers to benefit individuals and local organizations that may be in need.
Club President Sam Gerace reported the event was a huge success. He thanks everyone that participated and supported it, including the Dunkirk Police Department, The NYS Police Barracks in Fredonia, Post 62 and the many contributors to the Chinese Auction baskets.
The club is currently recruiting new members. Anyone interested should contact any club member for an application or contact the organization through its Facebook page.
