Matt Woleben belted a triple, double and single to lead Norm’s.
Alex Galfo tripled and doubled, as did Hunter Parks. Justin Sager and Eric Overmyer had three hits each while Max Vigue added a triple and a single in the win. Winning pitcher Brayden Smith helped his own cause with two singles and Travis Brennan roped a double for Norm’s.
Thomas Booth had two hits for Ferber Auto while John Steinwachs played a good defensive game and added a single. Ian Mancuso and Shane Gillian had the other hits for Ferber Auto.
Gowanda Merchants 11, Yankees II 2
The Gowanda Merchants baseball team won their opening game of the season.
The Yankees opened the scoring as Jason Howard sent the ball over the left-field fence for a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Gowanda answered back with two runs in the top of the second and third innings.
The Merchants then broke the game open when Justin Fish cracked a base loaded double in the fourth frame. Kevin Smith also smacked a two-run double in the sixth inning.
Gowanda pitcher Rick Johnson tossed the first five innings to earn the win on the mound. John Greene came on in relief for the last two innings. Kiernan Harris, Mark Benton and Greene had two hits apiece for the Merchants.
