TLC welcomes urology services to Lake Shore Hospital
IRVING – TLC Health Network officials are pleased to welcome Urologist Mark J. Doerr, MD of Western New York Urology Associates to the Lake Shore campus in Irving. Dr. Doerr will be available for appointments beginning Monday, June 9 in suite #3 of the Medical Office Building attached to the hospital at 849 Routes 5 & 20 in Irving. The specialist is accepting male and female patients of all ages, including children. The new office will provide a wide range of urologic services from basic diagnosis to treatments related to kidney and bladder function, various cancers, pediatric conditions, and both male and female urinary tract and male reproductive organs. Dr. Doerr, an Orchard Park native, has strong ties to the Western New York area and strives to provide the best possible compassionate care to his patients. He said, “making access to care easier for patients in this region was at the center of the decision to bring services to the Lake Shore campus.” He also stated that the community can expect a patient-centered approach to care where their interest comes first. “We want patients to be comfortable, so we try to take time with them, educate them, and reassure them.” Dr. Doerr also noted that his office staff provides excellent support for patients and are “truly available, very receptive.” This includes a nurse that is on-call 24/7 for anyone with issues that need to be addressed.
Dr. Doerr completed his urology training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During his five years at the Mayo Clinic, he was afforded the opportunity to learn from the current leaders in the field of urology. His training included comprehensive surgical and medical management of kidney stones, urologic oncology, female urology/incontinence, and pediatric urology. During his urology residency at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Doerr was recognized for his leadership abilities by being appointed Chief Urology resident during his final year.
Dr. Doerr graduated with honors from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society in 2005. Dr. Doerr received his bachelor of science degree from Canisius College in 1998 and his master of science degree in 2000 from The University of Buffalo/Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
The specialist has a clinical interest in minimally invasive surgical management of both kidney and prostate cancers. He has extensive training and experience with the DaVinci Robotic system and performed the first robotic pediatric pyeloplasty in Western New York in 2013. During Dr. Doerr’s tenure at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, his work with robotic prostatectomies contributed to the hospital earning the Healthy Grades prostatectomy excellence award in 2013. He is a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), the Minnesota Urological Society and has received numerous academic awards and honors.
