Lifeguard

re-certification class scheduled

The Dunkirk City Pool is sponsoring a Red Cross Lifeguard Re-Certification course on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The course will cover lifeguarding re-certification, CPR/AED and first aid. The class size will be capped at 10 participants.

Participants will need to bring a breathing barrier and are to be prepared for classroom instruction and pool instruction.

Participants need to meet in the Dunkirk Pool foyer area no later than 8 a.m.

The cost is $35 cash and will be paid the day of instruction.

OSC representatives will be at Hollywood Happening

Representatives from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office will be at the annual Hollywood Happening on Friday and Saturday at the Hollywood Theater, Main Street, Gowanda.

Residents will be able to find out if they are owed some of New York state’s $12.5 billion in unclaimed funds.

Representatives from DiNapoli’s office will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

New Yorkers may also check for unclaimed funds at www.osc.state.ny.us or by calling 1-800-221-9311.

Regional Economic Development Council meeting Thursday

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote economic development and community engagement in the region, SUNY Fredonia’s Division of Engagement and Econ-omic Development will host the Western New York Regional Economic Devel-opment Council’s regular meeting followed by a New York State Consolidated Funding Application workshop.

The dual events are scheduled for Thursday in the Williams Center at SUNY Fredonia.

The public is invited to both events, and preregistration is requested for the NYS Consolidated Funding Application workshop.

D.R. Barker Library open house/reception Saturday morning

The D.R. Barker Library has scheduled an Open House/Reception at 7 Day St., Fredonia, on Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon.

The event will welcome Sara Hart, the new library director, and Casey Casserta, the new children’s librarian.

There will also be opportunities to register for summer children’s programs and to visit a surprise addition to the children’s room. Refreshments will be served.

Sacred Heart Youth Rummage Sale Friday and Saturday

Sacred Heart Youth Rummage Sale at Sacred Heart Church, 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items include Little Tykes toys, playhouses, spaceship, picnic tables, indoor and outdoor toys, riding toys, TVs and consoles, household items and glassware, craft items, restaurant benches, holiday items and many miscellaneous items

All proceeds to benefit the Sacred Heart Youth Group.

Fredonia-Dunkirk Chambers of Commerce Attic and Seller Days June 6-8

The Fredonia and Dun-kirk Chambers of Com-merce will host Attic and Seller Days in the village of Fredonia and the city of Dunkirk on June 6, 7 and 8.

To be part of the program, you will need to contact your local Chamber office at 679-1565 in Fredonia (Team Era Office, Eagle and Main Street), and 366-6200 in Dunkirk (JCC North).

To register, fill out the form indicating your address to be listed, and any additional items you want listed in the ad at an additional cost.

The basic listing cost is $5, and $1 per line for additional items. Deadline is Saturday.

Also fill out what days your sale is taking place, your name, phone number and any other information requested.

You will be given an Attic and Seller Day Sign to be placed at the location of the sale, besides being listed on the map.

Maps with all sale addresses will be on sale at the Chamber offices starting Wednesday, June 4 at a cost of $2 per map.

Also registration forms are available at Dunkirk City Hall and at the White Inn in Fredonia.

Rabies clinic Saturday in Pomfret

A rabies clinic will be held Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the town of Pomfret Highway Building on Chautauqua Road in Fredonia.

Westfield Town Board to meet this morning

The Westfield Town Board will host a special meeting today at 9:30 a.m., to authorize payment for a dredging project.

The board will also take care of any other business that may come before them.

The meeting will be held at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield.

Pine Valley Board of Ed. to meet Thursday

The Pine Valley Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., in the Board Conference Room, Room 5, at the Elementary School.

The board of education is anticipated to enter into an executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel matters.
