Cougars rally again in win over T’birds
SINCLAIRVILLE – No. 2 Cassadaga Valley (11-2) is making come-from-behind wins a habit this postseason after they posted a 13-8 Section 6 Class C semifinal baseball win over No. 3 Chautauqua Lake (13-6) on Thursday.
The victory marked the third consecutive game that the Cougars have climbed out of an early hole.
“For the third game in a row, we fell behind in the first inning, 2-0, and then we came back in the top of the second and scored three runs. We scored three runs in the second and four in the third, a two run single by Tyson Gugino in the second and then Matt Heath with two run single in the third,” said Cassadaga Valley coach Joe Mistretta.
Jaquan Watts picked up the win on the hill for Cassadaga Valley in fanning four with five walks in six innings of work. Chase Jones entered the game in relief and was able to finish off the seventh inning despite entering the game with the bases loaded.
Devin Pope got the start on the mound for the Thunderbirds and had four strikeouts and six walks in three innings.
For the winners, Heath had four hits and Gugino two, while Kyle Ruge struck a double and a single and Watts did the same.
Kyle Mayer led the way for Chautauqua Lake with a single and a double, while Tyler Furlow managed the same.
