City man charged for allegedly selling cocaine

A Dunkirk man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged sales of cocaine within the city of Dunkirk. According to the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Dyquan M. Smith, 19, of Main Street was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance on Thursday.

Smith was arrested while he was an inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail on unrelated charges. Smith was indicted by a secret county grant jury on Wednesday. It is alleged Smith sold quantities of crack cocaine to an agent of the task force on multiple occasions within the city. Smith will be held at the county jail without bail pending arraignment before County Court Judge John Ward at a later date. This arrest culminates a three-month investigation into crack cocaine sales in the city of Dunkirk.

The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Dunkirk Police Department. The task force would like to encourage members of the community to call either the task force at 1-800-344-8702 or Dunkirk Police at 363-0313 when they observe narcotic-related activity in their area.

Jamestown man charged with thrift store burglary

A 20-year-old Jamestown man was taken into custody Thursday after reportedly burglarizing the Kind Thrifter Consignment Store early Wednesday morning.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, Steven M. Becker broke into the store, located at 8 E. Fifth St., by breaking open a window and climbing inside.

Becker then stole several items before leaving.

JPD investigators and the Ellicott Police located Becker at a Falconer residence at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday.

Most of the stolen property was recovered, police said.

Becker is currently at the Jamestown City Jail awaiting arraignment.

Dunkirk Police Department

Michael Porpiglia, 48, of Dove Street was charged with second-degree harassment on Tuesday.

Luis Cardona, 23, of West Ermine Street was charged with second-degree harassment on Wednesday.

Daniel Guziec, 24, of Washington Avenue was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident on Thursday. The accident occurred May 23 around 9:45 p.m. Guziec allegedly sideswiped a parked vehicle in the rear parking lot of 179 Lake Shore Drive E.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

MAYVILLE – Bryan H. Fish, 23, of Mayville was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, DWI, speeding and refusal to submit to a breath screen on Monday. Deputies observed Fish allegedly driving at a high rate of speed at 2:21 a.m., on Sea Lion Drive. During the traffic stop, Fish was found to be allegedly intoxicated. He was released to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.

ARKWRIGHT – Joshua D. Ellis, 24, of Forestville was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Wednesday. Ellis was stopped on Bard Road at 6:13 p.m., for allegedly operating with a revoked license. He was released to appear in Arkwright Town Court.
