Soup-R Saturday a success at Cross Roads

WESTFIELD – The Fifth Annual Soup-R Saturday at Cross Roads Farm and Market in Westfield yielded $820 in fundraising for “Lily’s Hope,” a service project by the Women of the Zonta Club of Jamestown.

Along with beautiful weather, those attending Cross Roads enjoyed 36 varieties of soup donated by vendors at Cross Roads, local restaurants and several individuals.

Winners for the contest included:

First place – Wendy Graham of Cross Roads’ Fudge and Stuff, for gazpacho, a cold Spanish vegetable soup.

Second place – Cindy Costley for her cheese and ham potato.

Third place – Josh Trusso for his cheddar chowder.

People’s Choice award winner was 9-year-old Kyle Douglas for his chicken wing soup. In addition, Kyle earned extra money for the charity by selling apple cider.

The Winners received great prize baskets filled with items donated by vendors at Cross Roads.

Kathy “Blanche” Milli-man of Blanche’s Goodie Garden located at Cross Roads headed the event.

“Blanche is just fantastic. She coordinated the soups, the setup for the event and donated containers for the contest. We have been so blessed for her to do this for ‘Lily’s Hope’ these last two years, and we’re already looking forward to next year!” said Co-chair of the Zonta PR Committee Rosie Papalia.

Papalia continues, “‘Lily’s Hope’ can now supply over 25 wigs for women in need.”

The fundraiser was a soup “taste-test” and sale, where all proceeds went toward helping women in Chautauqua County receive free wigs, caps, turbans or scarves from “Lily’s Hope.”

Next year’s event has been marked for May 9.

Open since November 2010, “Lily’s Hope” has been a great resource, helping over 200 in need.
