Veteran grateful for kindness

Editor, OBSERVER:

After shopping at Aldi on Thursday, I was checking out. The gentleman behind me noticed my World War II veterans hat I was wearing. He thanked me for my service in World War II. I thanked him for the recognition.

Right as I was about to pay the bill for the groceries, he pushed my hand away and said this was on me. I was practically speechless except for thanking him.

After he checked out, I thanked him again and he gave me the receipt for the groceries he paid for.

I want to thank him and let him know that his act of kindness is something a veteran really appreciates.

Thank you Gary.
