Juneteenth Celebration Saturday and Sunday in Dunkirk’s Memorial Park

The Juneteenth 2014 Celebration Committee is sponsoring the 19th annual Juneteenth Celebration Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Park on Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk. The theme for Juneteenth 2014 is “The Struggle Continues.”

Juneteenth kicks off Saturday with opening ceremonies at noon at the park. The committee will once again dedicate the two days to the family. In keeping with this theme there will be many games for adults and children to enjoy including an ice cream eating contest plus face painting and sand art. Other activities will include an obstacle course, party bouncer, Zumba Party by Ricky, and a crafts corner with activities for children. A Juneteenth Auction will be conducted with many exciting items on display.

Pure Ink Poetry Slam from Buffalo, will perform and conduct a poetry slam class. Music will be rendered by Familiar Spirit, a band from Erie, Pa.

The Gospel Service will be held on Sunday at noon. Congregations from the local African American churches will come together to worship the Lord. All denominations, pastors, congregations and members of the community are invited to attend this service. The guest speaker is Minister Jarmani D. Dozier from Rochester.

The Gospel Fest will begin at 2 p.m. with performances by The New Gospel Sounds of Dunkirk, The Fantastic Northington Singers of Buffalo, Vizion of Rochester and JUDAH of Rochester,.

Food vendors, crafts, and informational booths will be present both days. There will be something for the entire family to enjoy and participate in.

7:30 p.m. – Juneteenth Auction drawing

Sunday
