COI recognizes outstanding service in childcare

May 9 was National Provider Appreciation Day. This is a day dedicated to recognizing child care providers, teachers, and other educators of young children. It was started by a group of volunteers in 1996 and is celebrated each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day.

Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. recognizes and values the important work that child care providers do. The Chautauqua Child Care Council celebrated providers with an annual Provider Appreciation Dinner, which was held on May 1. All registered and licensed providers, including family and group family day care providers, day care centers and after school program providers were invited to Chautauqua Suites in Mayville for food, prizes, and fun. As a reminder to providers that they shine as bright as NEON (Nurturing, Encouraging, Outstanding, kNowledgeable) for area children and families, the council and providers all dressed in neon and mingled with all modalities of child care. After dinner, music, and a few games, the evening ended with providers winning donated prizes such as dinner cruises, zoo tickets, and gift cards from area restaurants.

Chautauqua Opportunities strives to create economic opportunities that afford each individual a ladder out of poverty and improve the overall well being of the entire community. For more information, call the Jamestown office at 661-9430, the Dunkirk location at 366-3333, or log onto
