Pomfret ZBA

to discuss possible Route 60 pavilion

The Pomfret Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on June 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the town hall to consider the appeal of Kathy Campola of 19 Lakeview Ave., Fredonia.

The ZBA will consider a special use permit for property located at Route 60, Cassadaga. The property is described as two parcels to be combined and the request is based on the denial of a building permit to build a pavilion and the need for a special use variance for the number of buildings located on the combined property.

Any person may appear in person or by agent or attorney. All interested persons shall be heard.

Rally for Irving hotel/water park today

Hanover residents are organizing a rally to support the proposed hotel/water park development on Beebe Road in Irving. The rally will take place at the Hanover Town Board meeting today at 7:30 p.m. in King Road Park, 601 King Road, Forestville. Supporters are encouraged to make their own signs with a positive message to make sure the development goes forward. Petitions are also available at Aunt Millie’s and the Garden Cafe.

Forum on high-volume horizontal

hydrofracking Tuesday

The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County cordially invites the public to attend a forum on high volume horizontal hydrofracking at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in room 105, Fenton Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus.

While the League of Women Voters has a position in favor of continuing the statewide moratorium, it believes the public should be enabled to form its own opinions based on a presentation of the facts, controversial though they may be.

The forum on Tuesday will consist of a balanced group of presenters. David Colligan is an independent lawyer from Buffalo who specializes in energy issues. John Holko and Tim Hull are energy company executives. Kim Sherwood is an hydrologist working in Chautauqua County, and Glenn Wahl represents Cattaraugus-Chautauqua for Clean Water.

The forum will be moderated by professor David Rankin, Chair of Political Science at SUNY Fredonia.

Admission is free and open to all. There will be opportunities for the panelists to question one another and to answer questions from the audience.

Literacy Volunteers book sale Saturday

Literacy Volunteers will hold a book sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 21 East Bookstore, located at 21 E. Second St., Washington Avenue entrance, Dunkirk.

Paperbacks will be available for $.50, hardcovers $1, children’s books $.25 as well as some specially priced books.

Patrons are invited to browse, take home some bargains, and assist in the work of promoting literacy.

Breast Cancer Support Group meets Wednesday

The Dunkirk-Fredonia Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the library of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia. All monies for Relay for Life need to be turned in at that time. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Hanover Memorial Post 148 Flag Day activities

American Legion Post Hanover Memorial Post 148 announces activities planned for Flag Day Saturday at the Silver Creek VFW Post 6472, 13 N. Main St., Silver Creek.

A flag retirement (burning) will be held at the Silver Creek VFW Post at 2 p.m. The public is asked to please retire their flags properly by taking them to a Military Post (club).

A spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the post. The cost is $8 per dinner. Call-in and to-go orders are available by calling 934-4205.

City chamber meets Wednesday

The next regularly scheduled meeting for the Dun-kirk Community Chamber of Commerce meeting is 4 p.m. Wednesday in the State University of New York at Fredonia incubator on Central Avenue.

Chamber members and the community are invited to attend.

Flag Day ceremony

set for Saturday

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 922 of Dunkirk will be holding its annual Flag Day Ceremony Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse, 1 Point Drive N., Dunkirk.

The public and city officials are encouraged to attend this service commemorating the birth of the American Flag.

The rain-out location will be the Elks Lodge at 428 Central Ave.

Chicken barbecue in Forestville Saturday

A chicken barbecue will be held Saturday at the Forestville Fire Station from noon until sold out. Dine in or take-out is available.

The menu will include chicken cooked by the firefighters, bacon ranch macaroni salad, corn on the cob, roll, and strawberry shortcake.

For a large dinner, the cost is $8.50, or for small, $5.50.

Cassadaga village lawn sales Saturday

For more than 30 years, the annual Cassadaga village lawn sales have been held on all the streets in the village. This year’s sale will be Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Everyone is invited to walk around the village for the sales. The event will be held rain or shine.

Father’s Day Raffle Friday in Cassadaga

The Cassadaga Branch of the Mary E. Seymour Memorial Library is sponsoring a Father’s Day Raffle. The drawing will be held Friday.

Chances on a Sears Craftsman “Weedwacker” gas-powered grass trimmer are available at the Cassadaga Branch Library for $1 each or 6 for $5. All proceeds will benefit the library’s children’s programing.

Child’s Safety Seat Check and Kids’ Safe ID Saturday in Gowanda

A free Child’s Safety Seat Check & Kids’ Safe ID will be held by the Cattaraugus Sheriff’s Department Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gowanda Fire Hall, 230 Aldrich St., Gowanda.

Parents or guardians must accompany the children for the Kids’ Safe ID.

This service is co-sponsored by the Gowanda Fire Department and Valley Pharmacy & Medical Supplies.

Farmers’ Market to run Saturday mornings

Fredonia Class of 1969 reunion July 25-26

The Fredonia Class of 1969 is planning a reunion to take place on July 25 and 26.

Among the highlights will be the return of the Wretched Group at “The Point” on Friday night and Comedian Nick Siracuse on Saturday night at the White Inn.
