Lake Day Celebration includes youth fishing contest
Cub Scout Pack 126 is sponsoring this year’s Youth Fishing Contest on Saturday during the National Marina “Lake Day Celebration” at Chautauqua Marina. The contest is open to all youth 3 to 12 years old. Prizes will be awarded to all youth fishing participants. In addition a free fly knot-tying workshop for kids and a musky fishing workshop for adults are scheduled. A light lunch will be served to all class and youth fishing contest participants. Visitors and residents are encouraged to stop by Chautauqua Marina from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to the classes and contest, the marina is holding an open house that will allow viewing of the “Waterfront Erosion Protection Project.” Representatives from CWA, CLA and Chautauqua Marina, Cub Scout pack 126 will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
In preparation for the event, Lou Clementi, manager of boat rentals at Chautauqua Marina, recently helped members of Cub Pack 126 earn their fishing badges. Lou showed them samples of different types of fish from the lake, taught them how to bait hooks with live worms and crayfish. The boys reviewed safety factors and rules when fishing and then they went fishing. Everyone caught a fish. the practice was catch and release.

The goal of “Lake Day” as a celebration of National Marina day is to make the public more aware of and to encourage participation in events utilizing the local lake environment.
