Two charged following Jamestown heroin bust
JAMESTOWN – At 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, the Jamestown Police Department SWAT Team, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Jamestown Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit and NYSP CNET executed four search warrants simultaneously on three apartments and a lower area of a house at 6 Winsor St.
The search warrants had been obtained earlier from Judge LaMancuso at the Jamestown City Court based on information supplied by members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force and the Jamestown Police Drug Enforcement Unit.
Once inside the apartments, officers arrested Julio Melendez, 45, and Jose Diaz-Solis, 51. Both subjects were arrested on warrants issued by LaMancuso, charging them each with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
It is alleged by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force that Melendez and Diaz-Solis have sold quantities of heroin to agents of the task force from apartments within 6 Winsor St.
Both subjects will be charged with additional counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance as a result of the investigation.
During the course of the search of the apartments, officers seized a quantity of heroin, other controlled substances, scales for the processing of controlled substances and a quantity of U.S. currency. The search warrants were executed without incident.
Additional charges will be brought against the subjects at a later date for the contraband that was seized during the search, police said. Both of the subjects were transported to the city jail where they will be held until their arraignment and they will then be transported to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail pending further action of the court.
The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Dunkirk Police Department.
