Silver Creek OKs tenure appointments
SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Board of Education honored three teachers and a principal with tenure Wednesday.
Middle School Principal Paula Troutman was the first to receive tenure.
“Two years ago I came to the district and one of my first tasks was to hire a leader for the middle school. Ms. Troutman was unanimously selected through all the committees and I have to say they were right – she is an outstanding leader and an important part of our administrative team,” Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich said.
Also receiving tenure was library media specialist Jason Hammond.
Troutman said she didn’t know Hammond did not yet have tenure because he acts as a veteran leader.
High School Principal James Klubek said before Hammond was in the library he was a social studies teacher at Silver Creek. He added Hammond is now like an extra teacher in the library.
Math teacher Kristin Zells was next to receive tenure.
Klubek said she sets the tone for the math program in the high school.
“I’m not kidding when I say my math teachers travel in a pack. What she starts the rest continue,” he said.
Fourth-grade teacher Craig Lamoreaux was the last to receive tenure.
Elementary School Principal Scott Rudnicki complimented Lamoreaux by saying he has been a leader in technology in the classroom, has brought stability to the fourth grade and his classroom is energetic and full of engaged students.
The board also appointed summer cleaners and summer school teachers and Alesha Helman as summer swim program supervisor and pool director. William Ferneza and Laura Wittenzellner were appointed as bus drivers and Sherry Ohl as a home instruction teacher.
The board also created a 1.0 FTE elementary teacher position and 1.0 FTE teacher aide position.
Substitute rates and hourly employee rates were also approved.
Board President Martha Howard gave an update for the audit committee, saying the district is preparing for its external audit.
Wednesday’s meeting will be the board’s final meeting in the board room due to construction. Further meetings will be held in the high school library. The board will next meet on June 25.
