New Dunkirk Hotel plans preliminary

The vision for a new hotel in the town of Dunkirk is still in the works.

During the public hearing held Thursday, County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency Project Manager Kristine Morabito read the legal notice to the public for Dunkirk Kasturi Limited building another hotel in the area.

The family-owned company is part owner of the Best Western and Comfort Inn on Vineyard Drive, which is also where the new hotel is planned.

Pravin Patel is experienced in the hotel business. According to town officials, he is a “top-notch man.”

“He (Patel) is a great person to work with. He looks out for the town,” Town Clerk Jean Crane said. “We are very pleased he is coming to benefit the town.”

“The town welcomes any business that wants to come in and build,” Councilman Robert Penharlow added.

CCIDA is in charge of assisting Patel with the tax portion of the project. The hotel has yet to go to the planning board, as it is still in the beginning stages. The CCIDA is the lead agency on the project.

“We passed a resolution last meeting. We are taking steps in the right direction to make this project a reality,” Morabito said. “We had to have a public hearing to collect comments and bring them back to the (CCIDA) board. Next Tuesday the (CCIDA) board will meet and consider all comments.”

Patel would like to break ground on the project later in the year.

“The town is familiar with him,” Crane said. “When we had problems with Applebee’s, he was the first to move on it. He is out to help the town.”
