Marian E. “Dolly” Benson

Marian E. “Dolly” (Rose) Benson, 92, of One Temple Square, Fredonia, N.Y. died Friday morning June 13, 2014 at the Lake Shore Rehabilitation Center in Irving, N.Y.

She was born December 4, 1921 in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of the late James and Emily Witzel Rose (Sheldon).

Mrs. Benson had been the proprietor of “Dolly’s Restaurant” in Fredonia before her retirement.

Her memberships included being a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dunkirk, N.Y. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. Dolly also enjoyed cooking, baking pies and canning.

Her survivors include: her daughter, Lola Schanzlin of Fredonia; grandchildren: Patricia Schanzlin-Hemenger and David Schanzlin (Rachel) all of Dunkirk; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Collin, and Mackenzie; her sister Lillian Gugino of MN, formerly of Gowanda, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Benson, who died May 17, 1963; two brothers: William and Robert Rose; one sister, Verna Krause; son-in-law Robert Schanzlin and her friend & companion, Edward Wrob-lewski, Sr.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the Perrysburg Cemetery, Rt. 39, Perrysburg, N.Y. on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Dept.
