Big-time event gets big name

Dunkirk and Shorewood Country Club hit the big-time last week.

Thanks to the annual Van Miller Hometown Heroes scholarship golf tournament, a national power was in our region when it comes to the National Football League – Bill Polian. Polian, a former general manager of the Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts, was master of ceremonies for the event.

What a treat.

Besides the two scholarship winners, Connor Aitcheson and Miranda Owen at Dunkirk High School, hundreds of golfers and residents took part in the dinner as well.

As Miller said many times in his years as the Bills’ play-by-play man, the event was “Fandemonium.”
