Evans Police still looking for fatal hit-and-run driver

EVANS – The Evans Police Department is still looking for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred late last year.

Shortly after midnight on Dec. 22, Barry Moss, 52, had left a friend’s residence on Erie Road (Route 5) in the area of Gold Street in Angola when he was struck by a 2013 gray Ford Explorer. The vehicle did not stop to assist Moss and he died due to his injuries and exposure to the cold weather. The vehicle was registered to Gabriele Ballowe, a town of Evans resident and only known suspect.

Following an investigation, Ballowe allegedly associated with persons who she may have confided in and/or who may have assisted in plans to get her vehicle repaired at a Dunkirk-area repair shop. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as well as any other witness who has not been interviewed yet.

Anyone with information but afraid of legal ramifications can notify Crime Stoppers – or have their at-torney notify Crime Stop-pers – to make arrangements to cooperate with the investigation. There is a $1,000 reward from Crime Stoppers and $10,000 re-ward from the family of Moss for information in this case.

“Although there is a reward being offered by Crime Stoppers and Mr. Moss’ family, it is our hope that someone will come forward because it is the right and moral thing to do,” Evans Police Department stated in a press release.

If anyone has information, contact Crime Stoppers at 867-6161 or Evans Police Department at 549-3600.
