Jamestown native named administrator of the year

MANKATO, Minn. – After only seven months as the new director of the Centennial Student Union at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Mark Constantine earned one of the students’ top recognitions – the 2014 Administrator of the Year award.

Presented by the student senate with Minnesota State Student Association, the annual spring semester award recognizes an administrator who makes a positive impact on students’ lives through innovative management and superior interpersonal skills. Constantine took over as director of the CSU in October 2013.

“In less than a year, Mark has managed to endear himself to every student that he has met,” said Ben Shakespear, MSSA vice president who presented the award. “Since the second he arrived on campus, his care and interest in the lives of students is so genuine. He goes above and beyond to include students in decision-making and hearing their opinion on matters. More importantly, he has become a great friend and resource for many student leaders on campus.”

Along with MSSA, Constantine works with students involved in other organizations including the Students Allocation Committee and the Student Union Board. Shakespear also recognized Constantine for his support of student activities and athletics.

“There is not an event on campus that we have not seen Mark at,” Shakespear added, “He is genuinely interested in learning a bit about every student he meets.”

A native of Jamestown, Constantine is the son of Athena and the late Chris Constantine of Jamestown. He and his wife Karen reside in Mankato, where Karen owns and operates a job search and college consulting firm.

Among the largest student unions in the Midwest, the Centennial Student Union at Minnesota State University, Mankato, is a 215,000-square-foot facility funded primarily through student fees. The CSU seeks to invite, involve and inspire students with services and programs that include a bowling and billiards game room, a food court, student activities, student support services and retail.
